Kapilatirtha Waterfalls - Kabbaragi

Category Natural / Scenic beauty

Kabbaragi village is located 27 km from Kushtagi. The Kapilatirtha Falls, the only waterfall in Koppal district, is situated 2 km from the village. It can be reached by a trek through the hills, offering a scenic and adventurous route. The Kapilatirtha Falls, also known as the Kabbaragi Falls, cascades from a height of approximately 30 to 40 feet, creating a captivating sight. Locally, it is referred to as “Kapaleppa” or “KapileppanaDidaga,” as the term “Didaga” is traditionally used for waterfalls in this region. According to local folklore, the falls have a mythological background. It is believed that Munishwara, a sage, once resided here. Through his penance, he is said to have brought the waterfall into existence, transforming the land into a sacred space for meditation. It is also believed that Kapila Muni and Chandalingeshwara were brothers, contemporaries of Jamadagni Maharshi. According to legend, Chandalingeshwara resided on the hill above, while Kapila Muni lived below, near the waterfall. This connection has made the falls a holy pilgrimage site for devotees. Surrounded by lush greenery, the area offers a tranquil and refreshing atmosphere, making it an ideal spot for nature lovers. The landscape is typical of the Western Ghats, with streams flowing through rocky crevices, enhancing its charm. The water that feeds the falls originates from the tanks of Venkattapura and Ganadalu villages, located atop the hill. When these tanks overflow, the water flows down as the Kapilatirtha Falls, creating a breathtaking sight. Today, the site is recognized as a popular tourist destination, attracting both pilgrims and travel enthusiasts alike.
